For Detective John Richards, solving a small-town murder may be his way back to living.

For Los Angeles Homicide Detective, John Richards, dedicating himself to his job has allowed him to bury his grief for the loss of his daughter but has cost him his marriage and distanced him from his son.

Successfully solving the murders of others and giving those family members peace of mind, allows John the fortitude to continue living but contributes to his obsessive need to solve the next case. His restless nights conjure up the helplessness he feels with his daughter's unsolved murder.

When an accidental shooting lands him on a much needed vacation, he travels to a small-town where he meets Cathy, a woman emotionally trapped by the unsolved murder of her daughter.

A local officer asks John to review the case details. As John helps the local authorities, he channels his own emotions into the case, believing if he finds the murderer it will free Cathy from her despair. In the process, he begins to evaluate the damage he has done to his relationships with his son and ex-wife.

When his feelings for Cathy grow, he begins to let the pleasures of living back into his life. But while still investigating the case, John unknowingly exposes her as the next potential victim.

On a drive back to the city, John realizes what he's done and races back to save her, but will his newly found consciousness cost Cathy her life?
