Odysseus Returns
Odysseus returns to Ithaca only to find the biggest battle of his life is still to come.
On a cliff, overlooking the port of Ithaca, Queen Penelope weeps. For 20 years, she has waited for her husband, Odysseus to return. She carries in her heart regret at the memory of her anger with her husband's decision to go to war. She remembers turning from his side the night before he journeyed and prays that she may one day ask his forgiveness.
Odysseus, aged from his long journey, floats on debris in the vast sea, one more obstacle that has befallen him on his journey home. Ready to admit defeat, he aches to hold Penelope one last time before death takes him. He regrets his decision to leave his family and country to seek the glories of war. He looks up to a vision of Penelope waving the medallion he left as a gift of his love. He reaches out to her and a man's hand grasps his own and pulls him aboard a ship.
His return to Ithaca brings more suffering as he finds the palace invaded by suitors, his son in danger and his queen with a heart of stone.
Odysseus plans for the suitors' demise proposing a contest for Penelope's hand. His son joins him in the battle to bring honor back to Ithaca and help Odysseus win back the hand of the woman he loves.
With victory in his hand, Odysseus returns to Penelope and professes his love. The queen rejoices but Odysseus reminds Penelope the deaths of the suitors will bring more conflict to the palace.
They must now each decide what sacrifice they will make to restore the glory of Ithaca.
